On a sad note, please keep our friend Father Juan Merentes and his wife, Maria Isabel, in your prayers. Father Juan has had a stroke and been flown to the USA for medical treatment. Father Juan is the priest at St. Andrew's Church in San Ignacio and also its mission church, St. Hilda's Church in Georgeville.
This blog is for Christ Church Cathedral's 2013 Belize Mission. An informal and light-hearted way for the Away Team to keep the Home Team up to date with our daily activities in Belize, the experiences gained, relationships made, obstacles overcome and joys celebrated. We welcome you to take part in this journey of Christ's love in action!

Our crosses
The members of the 2013 Away Team received crosses made by the Cathedral Pewtersmiths. Aren't they lovely?

Kids supporting kids!
The Cathedral Sunday School children have been involved in our preparations for the mission trip, and have had the opportunity to learn about the children in Belize through photo slideshows and guest speakers.
They made the lovely decorations for our Silent Auction and Dessert Party...

...and they also decorated cookies which were sold by donation at the
Cathedral breakfast on February 16th. Cookie sales raised $153.49 for
St. Hilda's School! Thanks kids!
Belize Mission Team says 12,000 thanks!
From the bottom of our grateful hearts, the 2013 Belize Mission Team says a sincere “thank you” to the congregation for overwhelming generosity surrounding the silent auction and dessert party on February 2nd in support of St. Hilda’s School in Belize.
It’s hard to find words to express
sufficient gratitude. Ticket sales, straight donations and enthusiastic bidding
resulted in an amazing total of nearly $12,000, and money is still coming in!
The organizing committee was astonished and humbled by the outstanding response of the Cathedral congregation, members of other churches, and local businesses who donated lovely auction items, fantastic desserts, plus their time and talent for the fund-raising event. The outcome was well beyond our most optimistic expectations, and St. Hilda’s will be thrilled!
Thank you to everyone who helped out:
mission team members and colleagues who worked as sub-committee leaders in
charge of decorations (Sheila Goucher and Cindy Pope), the auction itself
(Peter and Cheryl Jacobs), entertainment (Sue McKinley), publicity (Ann
Deveau), and volunteers (Helen Sullivan); Sandra Palmer, Donna Crowe and Jean
Embleton for handling food and beverages; treasurer Doug Milander; event
co-chairs Brad and Kirsten McKnight; Cathedral staff members Fran Miles and
Kevin Hayward who went above and beyond; the Sunday School children and their
teachers for beautiful decorations; Emcee Kurt Schmidt; the Fetter family of musicians; the ACW for
tables and linens; prayer partners for the mission team; everyone in the
congregation who helped in any way; and Dean Keith Joyce for his continuing
support.
We feel uplifted by your wonderful
kindness, strong financial support, hard work and constant prayers! We look
forward to sharing news with you about ways in which the students and staff at
St. Hilda’s will benefit from this outpouring of God’s love.

Prayer for the Misison
Most gracious and merciful God,
heavenly Father and God of the nations,
you have given us grace,
as followers of your Son,
to know and carry out your purpose
so that we might be witnesses to your glory and love
in every corner of the world.
Guide and bless, O Lord,
all aspects of this 2013 Cathedral Mission to Belize.
In your name honour its service,
supply its needs,
and empower all at home and away with your Holy Spirit.
Give us eyes to see your work among our friends in Belize
as we share our love for you with all whom we meet and serve.
This we ask in the name of the One, who,
for the sake of the world,
died and rose again
so that all can know your love and salvation,
Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Welcome
Hello and welcome to our blog. Thank you for joining us, at least electronically, on our journey to Belize.
Our Away team is made up of 16 members of Christ Church
Cathedral, Fredericton, NB, and a friend, the Rev. Stanley I., from Ontario. We have been
getting to know each other and preparing for our trip since September.
Our destination is St. Hilda's Anglican Primary School in
Georgeville, Belize, where we will primarily be helping the students
with their literacy skills. We will be staying at the In His Will Ministries mission centre nearby.
We want to thank our home team (the Cathedral family and
praying friends) for their support as well as their wonderful generosity
towards St. Hilda's school during our recent fundraiser.
We ask for your prayers - that the Lord Jesus be glorified in Fredericton and in Belize!
